Decodable Books

Big
https://www.readinga-z.com/books/leveled-books/book/?id=174
The decodable book Big is for kindergartners according to readinga-z.com. I think it is a great concept book for children who are just beginning how to read. I also think that this book would count as a predictable read as every page starts out with "A big ______." So, by looking at the pictures the child could easily read this aloud and to himself.
5 out of 5 stars!

Show Some Love
https://www.readinga-z.com/books/leveled-books/book/?id=1735
Show Some Love is also another book for Grade K. I think this is a great decodable text because it is also teaching children how to show that they love someone. I think that it's great that this book is teaching them concept reading, while also teaching them a great lesson with pictures of real people!
5 out of 5 stars!

How Many Do You See?
https://www.readinga-z.com/book.php?id=404
This book helps the child count different animals. I thought that this was really well made because in the book it says how many sheep do you see, but instead of the word sheep it actually has the picture. (See picture below). I think that this is a great way to help the child count by having them know exactly what they are looking for.
5 out of 5 stars!!

Wordless Picture Books

School by Emily Arnold McCully
ISBN: 0-590-98010-6
Scholastic NY, NY 1987

In the book School by Emily Arnold McCully a family of mice walk to school together. Out of all the siblings only one of them is too young to attend school with the others. While his mom is resting the young mouse sneaks out and goes to school with his siblings. When the teacher finds out she calls his mom and she comes to pick him up. I thought that this was a very cute picture book you could definitely understand what was going on, even though the book had no words. I would give this book a 4 out of 5 just because the illustrations weren't as great as the other books I read this week.

Trainstop by Barbara Lehman
ISBN: 978-0-618-75640-7
Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston 2008

A little girl and her parents travel home on a train. When the girls parents fall asleep she gets off the train and goes on her own little adventure. She goes to a town where all the people are miniature and she is a giant. She befriends them and helps with them with a few problems that arise throughout her stay. When she gets back on the train her parents are right where they were sitting. I really enjoyed this book. You could really tell exactly what was going on. I would give this book a 5 out of 5, the illustrations were beautiful and each page had at least one different illustration. I also liked how some pages were even set up like a comic strip.

Rainstorm by Barbara Lehman
ISBN:978-0-618-75639-1
Houghton Mifflin Company Boston 2007
This story is about a rich little boy who is very lonely during a rainy day. He kicks a ball into a corner, goes to retrieve it and finds a key. He tries the key on everything in his home until it finally opens a chest. There's a ladder in the chest and he goes down it and comes to a door with stairs that ends up being a light house. In the lighthouse he makes new friends and is no longer lonely. I really enjoyed this book because it was really nicely made. I would give this book a 5 out of 5 any child can explore their own imagination with this book.
